Virago Modern Classic Book Club – Deep Water

February’s selection was Deep Water, by the ‘original, gloriously twisted Queen of suspense’ Patricia Highsmith. The novel was first published in 1957, and counts Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn among it’s many fans. The Virago Modern Classic edition includes material from Flynn, taken from her Wall Street Journal interview on the influence that Highsmith has had upon her own suspense writing.

Praise for Patricia Highsmith

‘Highsmith is a giant of the genre. The original, the best, the gloriously twisted Queen of Suspense.’ Mark Billingham

‘A writer who has created a world of her own – a world claustrophobic and irrational and which we enter each time with a sense of personal danger . . . Miss Highsmith is the poet of apprehension.’ Graham Greene
