WFC 2013 – where to find us today

It’s the 2013 World Fantasy Convention, and we’re excited! If you want to know where we’ll be, who’ll be at the convention and what’s going on with the Gollancz crowd, just check back on the blog every day for our daily update for all the events – here’s what’s happening today:

Friday, November 1st

10.00-11.00

The Gollancz action starts early today, with a keynote panel. Join us for a Guest of Honour interview with the brilliant Joanne Harris, who will be in conversation with Muriel Gray. Amongst other subjects, they’ll be talking about Harris’ superb new novel The Gospel of Loki, in the Oxford Room.

10.00-11.00

But our loyalties are divided this morning! At the same time, you can hear our Esteemed Overlord Malcolm Edwards in discussion with Brian Aldiss and others about pulp and genre magazines in ‘Difficult to Digest’, in the Cambridge Room.

11.00-12.00

‘All But Actors on a Stage: Creating Memorable Characters’ is the hot topic Suzanne McLeod will be mulling over. Find out how it’s done in Hall 4.

The brilliant Joe Hill will be interviewed by the inimitable Sarah Pinborough in this second keynote panel of the day: Joe Hill’s Guest of Honour interview in the Oxford Room.

Join Sarah Pinborough in a panel about writing for the screen, in ‘Continued Next Episode’ in Hall 4.

Join us, to see the one and only Sir Terry Pratchett in conversation with Rob Wilkins and enjoy a reading from his forthcoming Discworld novel Raising Steam! It’s a day of exceptional panels, and you can see this one in the Oxford Room.

Fans take note! Patrick Rothfuss is on hand to give a reading from his work, and maybe even answer a few questions, for this select session in Hall 8B.

‘Not in Front of the Children: How Far Should you Go in Young Adult Fiction?’ is the subject for the discussion in this panel with authors Holly Black and Chris Wooding in the Oxford Room.

Translation: how to, when to, and what are the pitfalls? Translator and World Fantasy Award Judge Tom Clegg will be discussing the question with editor and authors including Mike Marshall Smith in ‘Qué? Lost in Translation . . . ?’ in Hall 4.

17.00-18.00

It’s a book launch! Gollancz and Bragelonne are delighted to be launching the debut novel The Path of Anger by Antoine Rouaud. There will be cake! There will be free drink! Please come and join us in the Signing Alley!

20.00-22.30

It’s the mass signing! Is there any author you’d love to meet? Do you have one of their books which simply must be signed? This is the moment, so seize the opportunity to meet some of the exceptional authors attending World Fantasy Con 2013, in the Oxford and Cambridge Rooms.
