Exclusive extract from Katie Piper’s CONFIDENCE

We’re very excited to reveal an exclusive extract from Katie Piper’s new book, CONFIDENCE: THE SECRET to round-off Feel Good Week!

In Confidence, Katie shares what she’s learned from her most difficult moments to inspire and help other achieve happiness and self-acceptance.

Katie’s message is a powerful one: that confidence is about valuing who you are, not what you do or how you look. She offers advice, ideas and inspiration for feeling more confident in all areas of life, whether it’s at work or school, in relationships and friendships, or learning to love and respect your body.

This is a wonderful book from one of Britain’s most inspiring young women, sharing her secrets to finding deep-down resilience, strength and confidence.

EXTRACT from Confidence: The Secret

I believe that you decide what you want in life, and then you go out and make it happen. No one thought disabled people could be supreme athletes until we saw the Paralympics and we’re in awe of them. In the London 2012 Olympics they were extraordinary – gifted, dedicated, brilliant. We all fell in love with them and they turned around attitudes towards those with disabilities. I wanted to do the same thing – I wanted to turn around the widely held belief that someone with burns couldn’t be sexy or beautiful or wear a gorgeous dress or present a programme on television. Breaking down taboos is one of my goals, and I know there are other people who feel the same way. Who writes the rules? We do! I was never going to give my attackers the satisfaction of being the girl whose life they ruined. I never want to give them that end to the story. Instead I choose what I want to be and then I go out there and do everything I can to be it. You can, too. Success is a journey, not a destination. It doesn’t happen in a straight line, the path goes off to one side and then the other all the time. But when it veers off track you just get back on it and keep going. Create your own future, and your own closure. Don’t look for happiness in other people, find it in yourself. When I married in November 2015 I remember thinking that it had been a long journey. It had been almost eight years since the attack that nearly killed me, and there I was, marrying the most wonderful man. I’d had health problems and we’d already put the wedding off once, and I thought we might have to put it off again. But we didn’t and it all went to plan – despite my anxious checking and re-checking! Richie and I were both emotional, in fact I think just about everyone was in tears. And I had never been more sure of anything, or happier.

When it comes to confidence, we could all take a leaf out of Katie’s book. She has overcome more than anyone else I know‘ Cheryl
