While we are a small team, vacancies do arise from time to time. We will advertise those vacancies on this website as well as in the trade press. In the meantime, if you do have a CV which you would like us to keep on file, please send it to our Personnel Manager, Ann Woodhall, at the address given above.

We only accept submissions sent to us via an agent. We do not accept any unsolicited material. The Writers' and Artists' Yearbook (published by A & C Black) and The Writer's Handbook (published by Macmillan) contain the addresses of all UK literary agents. You can also find UK Agents' contact details on the writersservices.com site, as provided by The Writer's Handbook. Virago Press accepts no responsibility for proposals sent to us.

'Some day I'm going to write a book,' Mother said. 'We were setting out the glasses and silver forks carefully on the table by the window. Far below was the blue river and the main road with cars, like little coloured beetles, aimlessly crawling to and fro.
'Yes, I'm going to write this book, she said. 'I want it brought out in paperjacks.'
'Paperbacks you mean.'
'Yes, like I said, paperjacks, with a picture on the front of a girl with her dress ripped off and her tied to a post in the desert and all the stories will have expensive wines in them and countries in Europe and the names of famous pictures and buildings and there will be wealthy people with expensive clothes and lovely jewels very elegant you know but doing and saying terrible things, the public will snap it up. I'll have scenes with people eating and making love at the same time. Maybe they'll want to make a film of it, it's what people want. It's called supply and demand.'
'That's a good title.'
She thought a moment. 'I hadn't thought of a title.'

If you elect to have your books shipped as they arrive rather than wait for them to be shipped together, this will incur an additional shipping charge.

How long will it take for my book to arrive?

Delivery times vary for a variety of reasons. Firstly the amount of time it takes to source the book from the publisher if we do not have it in stock, and secondly, the time it takes the postal services to deliver to the destination country. Thirdly the method of postage you have chosen (e.g. airmail, surface mail, or first and standard class for the UK) also affects the delivery time.

All delivery times quoted are the average for this service and are not guaranteed. Courier services with guaranteed delivery dates are available. Cost depends on customer requirements and the weight of goods and therefore must be an individual quotation from Foyles' Customer Services Department.

In the event of dispatched items being delayed or lost in the post we will offer to replace or refund:

21 days after dispatch if the item was sent 2nd class, UK Royal Mail

14 days after dispatch if the item was sent 1st class, UK Royal Mail

21 days after dispatch if the item was sent Airmail, EU and Europe

21 days after dispatch if the item was sent Airmail, North America

35 days after dispatch if the item was sent Airmail, Rest of the World
